고급영작을 위한 표현 모음

 

 

 

 

■ 관용어(Idiom), 속어(Slang)을 피하고 쉽고 의미가 확실한 "동사"를 쓸 것.

○ Your offer turned out too much expensive. (x)
 → I can not accept your offer since your price is too expensive. (o)

○ I bent over backward to secure the purchase order. (x)
 → It was my best to secure the purchase order. (o)

 

 

 

■ 애매한 표현(Vague or rhetorical expression)을 삼가고 "직설적이며 구체적인 표현"을 쓸 것.

○ If the lessee is in a difficult position to pay the rent on its due date. (x)
 → If the lessee fails to pay the rent on its due date. (o)

○ Leasing the whole house costs me an arm and a leg. (x)
 → Leasing the whole house costs me a lot of money. (o)

 

 

 

■ 시간과 관련된 전치사(to, until, from, before, after)와 함께 날짜가 표시되었을 경우 명확한 해석을 위해 다음과 같이 정의하도록 한다

The following terms "to" "until" "from" "before" or other words similar thereto used in the Agreement shall be deemed to include the date mentioned. However the word "after" shall be understood to exclude the date mentioned.

 

 

 

■ 각 조항에 붙이는 소제목(Heading, Context)에 대해서도 명확한 해석을 위하여 다음과 같이 설정하도록 한다.

The headings used herein shall not be deemed a part of the Agreement and shall not be taken into consideration in the interpretation or construction of the terms and conditions of the Agreement.

 

 

 

 

■ 계약문서 작성시 의무와 관련된 내용에는 "Shall"을 쓰도록 하자.

○ This equiment may not be used for the entertaining purpose. (x)
 → This equiment shall not be used for the entertaining purpose. (o)

* Shall은 근본적으로 동작주체의 의지와 관계없이 의무적으로 무엇을 해야한다는 의미가 담겨있는 조동사이므로 계약의 의무사항을 규정할때는 언제나 "Shall"을 사용하도록 한다.
