Model Essay 3

Q. People should try out several different occupations before committing to a long-term job.

A. In this era of rapid social and technological changes, it is often said that experiencing several different careers is ideal for people before committing to a permanent job. Although this argument is reasonable, after some reflection, I have come to believe that it is unnecessary for people to try different occupations before one becomes committed to a long-term job. The rationale behind this belief is that people are able to build a strong career path. On top of that workers can become more satisfied with their occupation.

To begin with, focusing on a single career, rather than trying several other jobs, increases the opportunities for workers to develop successful career path in their job. Since those workers tend to begin their career at an early stage, they are more likely to have accumulated knowledge and work experience. This will allow them to perform better at their work, eventually leading them to achieve early promotion in their career. To cite a personal example, I began to work as a Certified Professional Account upon graduation. Since I was the youngest in my accounting team, I struggled a lot to learn the work for the first few years. However, I was slowly improving as my work experience had accumulated. After several years, I got promoted to the youngest general manger in my firm. If it were not my strong determination to concentrate on one specific career, I would have never achieved this success.

On top of that, people get more satisfied with their job when they do not have excessive experience in different jobs. This is because they seldom compare their jobs with others as they lack targets for comparison. As the old saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. People simply can not get enough satisfaction with their present life. So, those people with only a few job experience are more likely to have better quality life as they are happy with their work. According to a recent research by National Business Association, employees who only have one or two work experiences tend to have better quality life as they are more satisfied with their job. This clearly indicates that people who have limited work experiences in different jobs are more likely to have better quality life.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that people should focus on one career rather than trying out different jobs. The truth of this argument becomes clear when we consider that doing so will pave a way for people to develop a concrete career path, and people will be more pleased with their jobs.

Model Essay 4

Q. Hasty decisions are never the right ones.

A. In this era of rapid social and technological changes, it is often said that people can make rightful decisions regardless of the amount of time. Although I admit that such an argument is reasonable to some extent, after some reflection, I have come to believe that hasty decisions are never the right ones in real life. The rationale behind this belief is that such decisions are prone to critical errors. On top of that, people are more likely to produce wrong decisions when they are given only limited period of time.

To begin with, people face with critical errors when they make hasty decisions. This is because they are unable to review the decisions in details due to the time constraint. Those critical errors are often developed into major problems at later stage which can seriously jeopardize the final outcome. To cite a personal example, I had to make a decision whether I should include the number of newly produced products for the annual sale report. My boss said I should look for the feedback from senior workers, but I really had no time for that. Instead, I thought myself that having bigger figure for the annual report would make me look good. So, I decided to put the number into the report. Later, it was found by the internal audit team that I should not have included the number to the report. If It were not for the hasty decision I made, I could have prevented such mistakes.

In addition, hasty decisions are usually wrong ones since those decisions are concluded without comprehensive understanding of the subject. So, in many cases, those decisions are extremely biased which are more likely to produce poor outcome. According to a recent research by National Business Association, businesses suffer a lot from hasty decisions as those decisions tend to lead firms into serious financial loss. The survey also indicates that those decisions could have been much better if employees had given more time to understand the subject.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that right decisions are seldom derived by hasty environment. The truth of this argument becomes clear when we consider that such decisions are vulnerable to critical errors, and people can make wrong decisions without having a concrete understanding of the subject.
